The TERROR-dactyl is a canyon swing like no other! The first of its kind anywhere in the world, this giant swing sits on the edge of a 200-foot cliff on Williams Canyon in Manitou Springs. Those brave enough to ride will be dropped off a platform over 150 feet into the canyon at nearly 100 miles per hour, traveling over 400 feet in less than 4 seconds! The G-forces on this ride might make you feel a little silly and the free-fall drop will have you laughing and screaming at the same time! This adventure is the perfect way to step out of your comfort zone.

What to expect

Once you’re securely strapped into the harness by our experienced and friendly staff, get ready to freefall over 150 feet into the beauty of Williams Canyon. The experience is literally breathtaking! Your shrieks and laughs will echo through the canyon, but as you swing back and forth over the canyon floor, you’ll already be planning to ride the Terror-dactyl again! 

Pro Tip: Riders must wear either shorts or pants as skirts cannot be accommodated due to the nature of the harnesses.

  1. After 15 minutes, present your ticket confirmation for a raincheck
  2. After ONE hour, present your ticket confirmation for a full refund

Riders must be 48″ tall

Weight difference between riders on same chair cannot exceed 100 pounds.

Absolutely! Safety is our top priority. The entire ride and structure undergo 120 points of inspection daily, with another 150 points of weekly inspection. The harnesses and and personal retention equipment undergo daily inspections, including the redundant safety systems with our trained and friendly staff ensuring every rider is secure before launch.  The ride has a double redundancy safety computer, and unless all systems and backups are green-lighted, the ride will not swing.

The entire experience lasts almost 4 minutes, with the BIG initial, tantalizing tilt and drop taking about 20  seconds, but the thrill and views of Williams Canyon will stay with you forever. Once the initial drop is over, the swing will rewind you gracefully back and forth across the canyon, where you’ll already be planning your next drop!

No, the TERROR-dactyl is not a bungee jump—it’s a swing! Unlike bungee jumping, this ride drops you on a giant swing, giving you a combination of free fall and a pendulum-like swing. If you’re looking for more adventures, we offer zip lining across the canyon and rock climbing experiences for all skill levels.

Reservations are not required for the Terror-dactyl, however, purchasing your tickets online can save you some time at the Ticket Office when you check in as well as a possible wait time if you simply walk up. Be sure to arrive at least an hour before closing to allow enough time for ticketing and preparation!

We do not allow guests to bring cameras on the TERROR-dactyl due to the extreme speed and danger to you, other guests, and your equipment. We do have a camera that is securely attached to the ride and you have the option to purchase a video or photo package when your ride is over.

Yes! We offer tandem rides for friends or family members. Just ensure the weight difference between riders doesn’t exceed 100 pounds, and the maximum combined weight does not exceed 450 lbs.

This canyon swing is the first of its kind in the world, offering a combination of near 100 mph free fall, 2.5 gs, adrenaline, and breathtaking views of Williams  Canyon. The ride is very smooth. It’s also very big and very fast!
