Caring for the Cave

Preserving the Caves

Caves take millions of years to form, so if something in them is broken or damaged, they can’t just grow back overnight! That means we must be very careful about how we use caves.

Taking care of caves is important for all of us. Caves shelter many animals that help our ecosystem, and caves provide scientists with many clues about earth science. Yet, people are the cave’s worst enemy – vandalism and water pollution can harm caves beyond repair.

The best thing to remember about a cave is that it’s non-renewable, which means that it can’t be made again. Don’t forget: take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time. And enjoy exploring Cave of the Winds – it’s a one-of-a-kind wonder!
