Youth Groups

Is your energetic group looking for a day they will be WILD about? Look no further!

Whether you are coming to the Cave of the Winds Mountain Park for team building, learning, or just plain fun, we have a tour designed just for your Junior High and High School groups including: Athletic Groups, Church Youth Groups, Choirs, School Bands, Science Groups, Clubs, and any youth organization.

Program Length

Tour time lengths are approximate and fluctuate according to the tour requested. Our tours range from 45 minutes to 2 hours.

Minimum Group Size

Groups must be at least 15 people. (Groups of fewer than 15 may pay a flat fee to participate in this program.)

Maximum Group Size

Please call 685-5444 Ext 5056 for group size limits. The maximum and minimum group size will vary depending on which tour you choose. Our average group size is between 15-20 people.

Discovery Tour

For All Ages

Our Discovery Tour is available year-round and goes into the parts of the cave that are lit with electric lighting. On this tour your guide will tell you about the discovery of the cave, some history of the cave, and about the formations in the cave.

Depending on the season, this tour can be upgraded to include Gemstone Panning, the Time Freak Challenge, and additional Outdoor Activities.

Available Weekdays, with some exceptions.

March – October:

$7 per student ages 12 and under, and $14 per each chaperone (per tour only). Your group will receive one free chaperone per every 15 paid students. Groups of 15 people or more required for group reservations. Groups with less than 15 people must pay for at least 15 people to receive discounted rates.

Special Discount – November-February:

This program is discounted to $5 per student and $12 per each Adult (tour only). Groups of 15 people or more required for group reservations. Groups with less than 15 people must pay for at least 15 people to receive discounted rates.

Geo 101: Underground Adventure

Grades 5 – 8

Specially designed to challenge middle school students, this field experience features an extended cave tour and a geology lab. Students will learn about Colorado Geology in our cave classroom before investigating cave formations during a tour of Cave of the Winds. Students will need to bring a flashlight for the highlight of the program in the Manitou Grands Caverns, the location of some of the most active passages of the cave. Expect clothing to get slightly dirty. Depending on the season, this tour can be upgraded to include Gemstone Panning, Time Freak Challenge, and the Outdoor Activities.

Participants must be at least 48” tall and under 300 lbs. to safely enjoy our Outdoor Activities.

Available Weekdays, September – May

March – May & September – October:

$9 per student/ $14 per chaperone (tour only). One teacher or chaperone free with every 15 paid students. All siblings and children under 6 years are not permitted. Children 6 years and up are $9 each (tour only) and must be counted in your group. Groups of less than 15 may pay a flat fee of $140 to participate in this program (tour only).

November – February:

This program is discounted to $7 per student/ $12 per chaperone, or a flat fee of $110 for groups of less than 15 (tour only). Gemstone panning and the Outdoor Attractions are not available November – February due to colder temperatures.

Siblings and Children under 6 years are not permitted on this tour. Children 6 years and up are $7 each (tour only) and must be counted in your group.


Caving 101: Introduction to Caving

Grades 8 – 12

Take your Youth Group on an exciting caving trek through the underground! Your group will explore undeveloped sections of the Manitou Grand Caverns, while climbing and crawling through passageways by flashlight. Knowledgeable guides provide groups with 2 hours of good clean, yet muddy fun underground! All participants must bring a flashlight and a change of clothes. Crawling is required and the cave is often muddy. The cave is 54 degrees year round with possibly humid areas. Depending on the season, this tour can be upgraded to include Gemstone Panning, the Time Freak Challenge, and the Outdoor Attractions.

Participants must be at least 48” tall and under 300 lbs. to safely enjoy our Outdoor Activities.

Available Most Weekdays, September – May

March – May & September – October:

$20 (per tour only) per each person on the tour. Groups of less than 15 may pay a flat fee of $300 to participate (tour only). Participants must be at least 8th – 12th Graders. Add-ons are also available. In June, July, and August: Must call for reservation (Call 685-5444, Ext: 5056). This tour is available at $20 per person (tour only) with 15 participants per tour or the minimum payment of $300 for less than 15 people.

Times available: (Daily) 8:00 am with a Max of 30 Participants or after 7:00 pm with a Max of 45 Participants. Add-ons are also available.

November – February:

Please call us to book your tour. This program is discounted to $18 per each person on the tour only or a flat fee of $270 for groups of less than 15 (tour only).


Lantern Tour

Grades 6 – 12

The Lantern Tour is an adventure that travels deeper into the darkest parts of the cave and participants will carry a lantern to light the way. Learn about the folklore of the cave, cave history, and hear some spooky stories about the cave’s past. Depending on the season, this tour can be upgraded to include Gemstone Panning, the Time Freak Challenge, and the Outdoor Activities.

Participants must be at least 48” tall and under 300 lbs. to safely enjoy our Outdoor Activities.

$11 per student ages 6-12 and $20 per each chaperone (per tour only). Groups of 15 people or more required for group reservations. Groups with less than 15 people must pay for at least 15 people to receive discounted rates.

Available Add-Ons

We have Add-Ons that will help you customer your visit and add more fun inside and out. You can customize your tour to include some of the following age-appropriate activities:

  • Gemstone Panning (Available March – October): Your students can pan for their very own gemstone collection on our Sluice just like the miner used to during the gold rush. Everyone is guaranteed to find some gemstones and we will even give them a souvenir bag to take their collection home in. This add-on will also include the Time Freak Challenge.
  • Time Freak Challenge (Available all year): Your students can test their speed, agility, and team spirit. Two teams of 2-4 will pair off to see how many pop-on lights each team can tap-out. Highest score wins! This add-on will also include Gemstone Panning March-October.

Preschool – 8th Grade

Available All Year

  • “Caver’s Crawl” will teach kids about what it takes to go caving and the skills it requires. Then they will have an incredible hands-on simulated caving experience in the Caver’s Crawl Box Challenge.
  • The “Forces of Nature” program will teach students about wild fires (with focus on the Waldo Canyon Fire), flash flooding, and lightening and their effect on nature.

Grades 5th-12th

Available March – October, Weather Permitting

    • Wind Walker Challenge – For more physical challenges, dare to climb onto our Wind Walker Challenge ropes course at 15, 30, and 200 feet above Williams Canyon. This add-on includes the Bat-a-Pult.
    • Bat-a-Pult – On the Bat-a-Pult zip-line, students will experience flight and survey the terrain from a bats-eye view as they soar down into Williams Canyon before boomeranging back to the start.This add-on includes the Wind Walker Challenge.
