Field Trip FAQs

Does my group need to make a deposit for our field trip?

There is a minimum deposit of $10 that will be charged when you make your reservation. Your deposit will be applied toward your grand total. The remaining balance will be due the day of your tour. Sorry, no business, school, or personal checks can be accepted.


How long will our field trip take?

Approximately one hour and thirty minutes to three hours for younger children and two to four hours for grades 5 through 12. Please allow approximately 20 minutes per add-on activity.

When can we visit?

Weekdays only, September – May (Weekends and June through August available for grades 9-12 and youth groups only).

How many students and chaperones can we bring for the Introduction and Intermediate Bats and Caves tours?

We can accommodate up to 80 people if you would like to do only a cave tour. However, we encourage you to add on our educational activities with your tour to enhance your students experience at Cave of the Winds Mountain Park. Please see below for larger groups.

How many students and chaperones can we bring for the Geo 101: Underground Adventures tour?

We can accommodate up to 60 people if you would like to do only a cave tour. However, we encourage you to add on our educational activities with your tour to enhance your students experience at Cave of the Winds Mountain Park. Please see below for larger groups.

How many students and chaperones can we bring for the Caving 101: Introduction to Caving tour?

We can accommodate up to 45 people in your group for the tour only, however, up to 90 can be accommodated when you add on additional activities.

Can I bring a larger group of up to 200 people?

Yes, depending on the tour you are taking. When you book up to 200 Students you will choose from our list of popular add-ons. Add-ons help keep students learning and help us accommodate larger groups.

Do I need to break up the students in to smaller groups to tour the cave?

Yes, our average group size is 15-20 people per group.

Why should we choose add-ons?

Our add-ons will help your students learn more about caving, history and nature. Some of the add-ons are just for fun and some are free!

When are the Outdoor Activities available?

The Outdoor Activities are available: March through mid October, weather permitting. We are also able to reserve use of the Bat-A-Pult during the winter months for groups of 15 or more, weather permitting. and with a reservation of 15+ participants.

How long will the Outdoor Activities take?

Please allow an hour for the Wind Walker Ropes Course and about twenty to thirty minutes for the Bat-A-Pult zip line.

What should students wear for the Wind Walker and the Bat-A-Pult?

All shoes must fit securely. Sandals must have ankle straps and high heel shoes, or any other type of shoe that can easily fall off of your feet will not be allowed. Skirts or dresses not recommended! Also, your pockets should be empty of important items. We have lockers available for rent or many students will bring a bag for their personal items.

Are there any restrictions for the Wind Walker and the Bat-A-Pult?

You must be at least 48″ tall and weigh less than 300 lbs.
