Cave of the Winds

I visited the cave this morning about 9AM. All is well. The buildings, scenery (even the flower pots) are just as we left them on Saturday afternoon. There is very little soot or smoke smell.

There is still a hot spot farther up Williams Canyon but the helicopters are dropping lots of water on it and it should be extinguished by this evening.

At this time the officials have said that they will not open Hwy 24 until Monday morning. I doubt they will change their mind so I believe we will not be able to open before Monday.

With that plan in mind Ann & Arron are preparing the schedule for next week with the intention that you will report for your assigned normal duties beginning Monday July2.

I have just returned from cave and ALL IS WELL! Looks like any other normal day at the Cave, except no guests. The buildings AND scenery are intact.. even the flowers are healthy and blooming!! There is very little if any smoke smell and the amount of soot and ash is minimal…no more than the usual dust we we get on a busy day.

The helicopters are stuill flying to the top of Willaims Canyon to try and extinguish one stuborn hot spot but they think that it is under control and will not pose much threat after today.

IF we get the all clear from the officials we may be able to resume business Monday July 2. Please check back here over the weekend to get the latest update on work schedules.

Today Ann and Arron are working on the schedule for next week and as that it will be 4th of July on Wednesday we are planning to schedule for a normal week. Therefore everyone should expect to get their normal shift and hour assignments…hopefully.

If anything changes I will let you know.
